Take Action: Support AB 1088
Please take action and send a letter to Gov. Jerry Brown to urge him to sign AB 1088 to disaggregate data to reflect the diversity of Asian Americans as well as Native Hawaiians and Other Pacific Islanders.
What the Bill Would Do
AACRE-sponsored legislation, AB 1088, would require four key state agencies, the Department of Health Care Services, the Department of Public Health, the Department of Industrial Relations, and the Department of Fair Employment and Housing to collect and disaggregate demographic data for ten additional Asian, Native Hawaiian and other Pacific Islanders. This is crucial to our communities as these groups are rapidly growing in California. According to the 2010 Census figures, these groups represent 15.5 percent of the state’s population and has increased nearly 34 percent since 2000.
The costs to implement AB 1088 are minimal but the benefits are tremendous – they would give legislators, policy makers, foundations, government agencies, and community groups access to critical information to better and more effectively serve Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander communities.
