150 years after slavery was abolished in the United States, Black communities still face systematic disadvantages in American life. Accompanied by an art installation located at Edge on the Square in San Francisco’s Chinatown (June 2024 – Feb 2025), this bilingual zine highlights the history and significance of Black communities here in San Francisco and why supporting reparations is beneficial to all. This zine, Why now? Reparations in San Francisco, is the first of two. The second part of this zine will detail a personal conversation between a member of the Black and Chinese community, scheduled for Fall 2024 release.
