Education Equity
Our struggles and our freedoms are interconnected.
AACRE rejects false narratives that pit people of color against one another and use Asian Americans as shields for systems built on white supremacy. We embrace Asian Americans’ history of activism for affirmative action, bilingual education and other education equity initiatives–a history we have shared with Black, Indigenous and other communities of color fighting for education as a civil right. We work to ensure these stories are known both across our own Asian diaspora communities and by the broader public.
Our Work
Anti-Deportation Work
None of us are free until we’re all free.
Asian Prisoner Support Committee (APSC) and its AACRE network partners work to free formerly incarcerated immigrants from the unfair “double punishment” of direct transfer to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) immediately after they have been released. This includes freedom campaigns to press for pardons and other actions to prevent or reverse deportations, as well as direct legal support from APSC’s staff attorney. This work is done in solidarity with other communities of color, through campaigns that support immigrants of all backgrounds. We also work to educate leaders and the public through projects like APSC’s #HomeNotHeartbreak social media campaign. APSC and AACRE support legislation to prevent ICE transfers, with a 2023 proposal easily passing the state legislature before being vetoed by Governor Newsom.
